MP Seeks Parliamentary Questioning of Hajj Corporation Over Queue Transparency

North Galolhu MP Ibrahim Mohamed has called for the Hajj Corporation’s leadership to be summoned before a parliamentary committee to answer questions about the transparency and fairness of its Hajj pilgrimage queue.

In a letter to Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla sent today, Mohamed Ibrahim asked the State-Owned Enterprises Committee to question the corporation over its management of the queue.

The MP said the queue is not publicly accessible, raising concerns among people who have paid for the pilgrimage but cannot determine their position or verify whether the process is free from external influence.

He asked the committee to seek clarification on why the corporation has not introduced a system allowing people to check their position in the queue and what measures are in place to prevent queue jumping.

He also questioned how the corporation balances public access to queue information with the protection of applicants’ personal information. He proposed that the committee examine whether queue information could be published like voter information made available by the Elections Commission.

The MP further asked whether the corporation plans to establish an online portal providing real-time information on the queue position of people who have paid for Hajj and, if so, when such a system could be introduced.

Mohamed Ibrahim also called for clarification on the allocation of the Hajj quota, including the percentage allocated to the general queue and the share reserved for special categories such as elderly pilgrims and helpers.
