The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will hold an investment forum featuring more than 100 commercially viable projects alongside its 2026 Congress, while inviting businesses, NGOs, clubs, music groups and other organisations to participate as observers.
The forum will showcase projects proposed by city and island councils, with participants also given an opportunity to discuss issues of interest with local councils and representatives of the incoming MDP administration.
MDP has opened applications for organisations wishing to attend the congress as observers.

The party’s National Council approved September 19 as the date for the congress at its 36th meeting of the fourth-term National Council, following a proposal by MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Under the MDP constitution, the party holds its regular congress once every five years, while an extraordinary congress can be convened under specific circumstances with approval from the National Council.
Nasheed, who was elected MDP chairperson on June 12, has previously said the party plans to amend its constitution at the upcoming congress.
The proposed changes are expected to include the process for selecting the MDP’s candidate for the next presidential election, including the party’s primary.
