HPA Reports 17 Measles Cases in the Greater Malé Region Over the Past Week

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that 17 cases of measles were reported in the Greater Malé region over the past week.
According to statistics released by HPA, a total of 243 measles cases have been reported in the Maldives so far this year. The agency also noted that 16,045 people have been vaccinated against measles to date.

HPA advises anyone who is uncertain whether they have completed the required two doses of the measles vaccine to visit a designated vaccination center to get vaccinated.

Cases of measles continue to appear occasionally, even after the disease was officially eradicated in the Maldives. Although the country had eliminated the disease entirely, HPA initiated measures immediately upon detection of the first case, in line with standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Efforts have begun to identify infected individuals, trace contacts to administer vaccines, and raise public awareness. Symptoms of measles include red skin rashes, fever, cold-like symptoms, coughing, and red eyes; anyone experiencing these should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
