Maldivian Red Crescent Launches Fund to Support Nepal Flood Relief

The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has launched the MRC Nepal Solidarity Fund to provide emergency assistance to communities affected by devastating flash floods in northern Nepal.
The floods, which occurred on 26 August, caused widespread destruction, particularly in the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. Current estimates indicate that around 93,000 people may have been affected, with homes destroyed and bridges and roads damaged, leaving some communities isolated.

MRC said all funds raised through the initiative will be remitted to the Nepal Red Cross Society through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Emergency Appeal. The appeal, launched on 27 August, is seeking CHF 25 million to support emergency response and longer-term recovery efforts over a two-year period.
The solidarity fund will remain open until 3 September 2026, with MRC calling on the public to contribute towards relief efforts for families and communities affected by the disaster. Donors can learn more about the donation process via MRC website.
