Work to relocate healthcare services provided by Villingili Hospital to a temporary facility is expected to begin in mid-September, Male’ City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem has said.

The relocation is being carried out to facilitate the construction of a new tertiary hospital on the site of the existing Villingili Hospital. The services will temporarily operate from the former Amaan Hiyaa building.

Speaking to state media, Haleem said finishing works are currently underway at the temporary facility, including the installation of a bed-accessible lift.

He said the relocation will take place in phases to prevent disruption to healthcare services. Emergency services, outpatient department (OPD) services and vaccination services will be among the first to move.

The existing Villingili Hospital building will be demolished to make way for a new 100-bed tertiary hospital, which will be developed with grant assistance from the Chinese government.
