President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to addressing the national housing shortage, assuring the public that a significant proportion of Maldivian citizens will secure permanent housing by mid-2028 through state-backed initiatives.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office today, President Muizzu clarified that the administration’s housing pledge extends beyond physical flat construction. The government, he stated, is taking a broader approach by offering accessible loan schemes and financial support to help households establish long-term security.

Addressing questions regarding ongoing housing infrastructure, the President noted that previous administrations rarely initiated housing developments and delivered fully habitable units within a single presidential term. He expressed confidence that the current government’s accelerated pace across various project phases will break that pattern, enabling citizens to move into completed properties before the end of the term.
In addition to building construction, President Muizzu provided an update on major infrastructure efforts in the Malé region, including large-scale land reclamation projects aimed at expanding residential development. He noted that relevant state institutions will publish detailed updates on financial mechanisms, land allocations, and project timelines as developments progress.
