Addu City Council Urges Residents To Avoid Link Road Amid Severe Flooding

The Addu City Council has urged residents to avoid using the Link Road unless necessary as heavy rainfall continues to cause widespread flooding and deteriorating road conditions across the city.

The council said the condition of the Link Road has worsened to dangerous levels, advising motorists to exercise extreme caution, reduce their speed in flooded areas and remain alert for water-pumping hoses laid across roads.

Heavy rainfall since Thursday has caused flooding in residential areas, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reporting that more than 70 homes in Feydhoo have been affected.

A family of eight has also been relocated to temporary shelter after floodwaters made their home uninhabitable.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a nationwide White Alert over heavy rain, which is due to remain in effect until 14:00 today.

Addu City has been among the areas most affected by the ongoing rainfall, with flooding reported across homes and roads. 

The capital city Malé has also experienced heavy downpours, with flooding reported in some parts of major roads, including Majeedhee Magu. Authorities have advised the public and seafarers to exercise caution amid the adverse weather conditions and rough seas.
