Maldivian Duo Wins Bronze at Asian Pastry Young Chefs Challenge in China

The Maldives has won a bronze medal at the 4th Asian Pastry Young Chefs Challenge, with young chefs Hawwa Alesha Naween and Mariyam Uzma Mahmood representing the country at the international competition in Guangzhou, China.
Held from 10 to 12 September, the competition brought together emerging pastry chefs to demonstrate their technical skills, creativity and craftsmanship. The event was organised by the China Cuisine Association and featured on the Worldchefs international competition calendar.

Aleesha, 18, and Uzma, 20, are students at Villa College, where they are completing a Certificate IV in Culinary Arts. They represented the Maldives through the Chefs Guild of Maldives.
Their competition entry combined contemporary pastry techniques with flavours and ingredients associated with the Maldives.
Among their creations was an artistic chocolate tree decorated with pulled-sugar flowers, showcasing their chocolate and sugar work.
The duo also presented a coconut mousse with passion fruit coulis, a kanamadhu tart with huni hakuru filling, and a chocolate sponge layered with pecan nut crunch, raspberry confit and chocolate mousse.
The bronze medal marks an international achievement for the two young chefs while representing the Maldives in the regional pastry competition.
