NSPA Spends MVR 58.3 Million on Disability Financial Assistance in August

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) spent MVR 58.3 million on financial assistance for persons with disabilities in August, according to data released by the agency.

NSPA said MVR 58,368,000 was provided to 15,498 beneficiaries during the month. The agency has 15,665 registered beneficiaries, with 169 people newly registered in August.

The August beneficiaries comprised 9,057 males and 6,608 females.

The agency also spent MVR 8 million on outpatient therapy and medical assistance for persons with disabilities during August, with behavioural therapy accounting for the largest share.

A total of MVR 2,702,390 was spent on behavioural therapy for 140 beneficiaries. Of these, 108 were male and 32 were female.

Spending on financial assistance has increased steadily throughout the year. NSPA spent MVR 56.831 million on 15,549 beneficiaries in July, compared with MVR 57.938 million for 15,414 beneficiaries in June.

Monthly spending and beneficiaries earlier in the year were:

• May: MVR 56.8 million for 15,169 beneficiaries
• April: MVR 55.9 million for 15,146 beneficiaries
• March: MVR 55.5 million for 15,072 beneficiaries
• February: MVR 54.8 million for 14,993 beneficiaries
• January: MVR 54.6 million for 14,975 beneficiaries
