Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim Concludes State Visit to Maldives
PM Anwar was formally seen off at Velana International Airport by Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam following the conclusion of his visit.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has concluded his two-day state visit to the Maldives, during which the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation across several sectors, including defence, trade and finance.
Anwar visited the Maldives at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and held official talks with the President at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

The discussions covered trade, defence, healthcare, tourism and Islamic affairs, as well as shared positions on international issues.
The two countries signed memoranda of understanding on defence and Islamic affairs during the visit and announced plans to begin negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement.
Malaysia also agreed to provide a USD 100 million currency swap requested by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). The arrangement will be established between the MMA and Bank Negara Malaysia, with technical discussions between the two central banks ongoing.
Anwar also said he would discuss with Malaysia’s state-owned oil company PETRONAS a proposal by President Muizzu for assistance in surveying potential oil and mineral resources within Maldivian territory.
President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed hosted a state luncheon in honour of Anwar during his visit.
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam also held meetings with the Malaysian Prime Minister.
