Shoppers across the Maldives will be able to pay directly for purchases from major Indian online retailers using Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) through the cross-border platform Global Ducan, starting this Friday.
The announcement was made yesterday by Global Ducan on their social media.
The introduction of direct local currency processing allows Maldivians to bypass standard foreign exchange limits on bank cards and eliminate extra currency conversion charges.
By utilizing the Global Ducan website or mobile application, consumers can order from leading Indian marketplaces including Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Nykaa Fashion, and IKEA. A central feature of the service is its “Unified Cart,” which lets shoppers combine items from multiple merchants into a single checkout transaction rather than paying each vendor separately.
Maldives Post Limited handles the logistics, delivering orders directly to doorsteps in Malé and across the outer atolls. Analysts expect the payment integration to offer significant relief to both individual consumers and local online business owners sourcing stock from India.
Global Ducan originally debuted in May 2026 as a joint initiative between Maldives Post Limited and India Post to streamline trade between the two nations.
Prior to the platform’s introduction, Maldivian shoppers routinely faced logistical hurdles when buying from Indian online outlets, including the requirement for a verified physical shipping address within India. Global Ducan resolved this issue by consolidating regional forwarding, transparent price calculations, and national mail distribution into a single digital service.
With the upcoming integration of MVR billing, the portal addresses the remaining currency friction, providing a fully localized shopping experience for international goods. For customer inquiries, Maldives Post continues to offer assistance via its dedicated support call centre and website messaging services.
