Tourism Diversification to Deliver Broader Community Benefits, Says Minister

The Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has stated that ongoing efforts to diversify the Maldivian tourism sector are enabling a wider proportion of the local population to benefit directly from the industry.

Speaking at the World Travel Awards 2026, Minister Ameen reflected on the development of the national tourism sector over the past 54 years, attributing its international acclaim to the dedication of industry pioneers and local workers.

Minister Ameen noted that under the vision of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the government is actively expanding trade promotions, establishing air connectivity with new international destinations, and diversifying tourism products. He emphasised that these initiatives aim to extend economic opportunities across various demographics within society.

He expressed gratitude to the World Travel Awards organisers for selecting Maldives as the host country, noting that hosting an event of this magnitude is an honour that will attract substantial attention to the nation.
