National Centre for Holy Qur’an Branch Opens in Uligamu
The branch was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ustaz Abdul Gafoor Ahmed and HA. Uligamu Council President Asadulla Mohamed.
A branch of the National Centre for the Holy Qur’an has been opened in HA. Uligamu as part of a government initiative to establish branches of the centre across all inhabited islands of the Maldives.
The branch was inaugurated on Tuesday by Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ustaz Abdul Gafoor Ahmed and HA. Uligamu Council President Asadulla Mohamed at a ceremony held on the island.
Officials from the National Centre for the Holy Qur’an and members of the Uligamu Council attended the ceremony.
The government said branches are also being established in 13 other islands, including Lh. Hinnavaru, S. Hithadhoo, R. Maduvvari, HDh. Vaikaradhoo, K. Maafushi, GA. Dhaandhoo, R. Rasmaadhoo, L. Maavah, B. Thulhaadhoo, B. Eydhafushi, HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, F. Magoodhoo and R. Hulhudhuffaaru.
The government has also introduced several initiatives focused on Qur’anic education, including fully funding the National Qur’an Competition through the State Budget, doubling allowances for Huffaz and introducing a graduation ceremony for those who complete memorisation of the Holy Qur’an.
Preparations are also underway to launch a dedicated Waqf initiative for the Holy Qur’an.
