The Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade has warned retail businesses that they could face legal action and fines if they display goods for sale without clearly visible prices.

In a directive issued to businesses today, the Ministry said retailers must display prices on individual products or in a clear and easily recognisable manner, as required under the Sole Proprietorship Act (Law No. 12/2020).

Businesses can comply by writing, attaching or labelling prices directly on products, or displaying them on the shelves where the goods are kept. Shelf prices must be positioned clearly so that consumers can identify which price corresponds to each item.

The Ministry urged all businesses selling goods to ensure that price information is visible and accessible to consumers.

Failure to comply with the directive may result in legal action under the Act, the ministry said.
