A key stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be closed to general traffic starting tonight, from 00:00 hrs to facilitate the next major phase of road re-alignment and resurfacing works.

According to the notice issued by authorities, the temporary closure affects the western outer ring-road segment extending from the Tsunami Monument to the Social Centre. Traffic diversions will be enforced throughout the area as indicated on the official route maps.

The Maldives Police Service has instructed vehicle owners to clear all cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles parked along the designated stretch prior to midnight tonight to allow heavy machinery to begin pavement clearing and utility works without obstruction.

MTCC confirmed that the MC-30 prime coat application for Segment 3 of Ameenee Magu, stretching from Izzudheen Hingun to Koarukendi Hingun has been successfully completed.

Asphalt paving for Segment 3 is scheduled to begin on tomorrow, with road marking works to follow immediately upon completion of the paving.

The temporary closure forms part of the ongoing, multi-phase redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu executed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

Earlier phases of the project expanded and paved the northern carriageway stretching from the Henveiru Terminal through North Harbour to the Fish Market and Republic Square. Those completed works included shifting the quay wall outward, reclaiming sections of the lagoon, laying new asphalt over a 1.145-kilometre stretch, installing updated stormwater drainage and sidewalks, and adding a dedicated 500-space motorcycle parking area.

With works moving forward around the western perimeter including near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) engineers and contractors are advancing physical works to redevelop, widen, and modernise the final remaining outer ring-road segment linking the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) commercial area to the Tsunami Monument.
