An apartment in the Hiyaa housing towers in Hulhumalé sustained severe damage on Friday evening following a kitchen fire that displaced four residents.
Emergency response personnel attended the scene after the fire broke out inside a residence located on the 23rd floor of Hiyaa Tower 11. No casualties or injuries were reported.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed that the fire left the kitchen facilities unusable and caused heavy smoke contamination throughout the premises.
“This authority responded to a fire incident that occurred this evening in an apartment on the 23rd floor of Hulhumalé Hiyaa Tower 11,” the NDMA said in an official statement.
“The apartment’s kitchen was damaged beyond use, and due to smoke contamination throughout the home, this authority has arranged temporary shelter for one day and food provisions for five days for four residents living there. No one sustained any injuries in this incident.”
Photographs released by the authority on social media showed charred appliances, with the gas cooker, kitchen cabinetry, and cooking utensils suffering extensive destruction.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the blaze.
