The Ministry of Defence and National Service, alongside the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), has initiated the phased redevelopment of the Bandeyri Koshi residential complex in Malé to expand modern housing for military and police personnel.
The redevelopment fulfils a pledge announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during this year’s National Service Day to deliver adequate housing for security service members and their families, addressing rising accommodation demands as personnel numbers continue to grow.
Under the initiative, Bandeyri Koshi 1 and 2, which currently provide temporary housing to MNDF and police officers, will be completely rebuilt to accommodate a substantially larger number of servicemen and servicewomen during their active tenure.
To prevent disruption to current residents, the project will proceed in phases, commencing with Bandeyri Koshi 1. Defence authorities and the MNDF are currently finalising preparatory arrangements, which include briefing affected residents on execution plans, hearing concerns, and providing transitional solutions before any units are vacated.
Under the relocation framework, residents currently living in Bandeyri Koshi 1 will be moved into the newly constructed apartments once the first phase is completed. The broad project aligns with President Muizzu’s long-term vision to elevate national defence capabilities by 2040, equipping the armed forces to deliver services comparable to those of developed nations worldwide.
