Suspect Remanded for 10 Days in Bridge Barricade Drug Crash
A local man has been remanded in custody for 10 days after allegedly fleeing traffic police at dangerous speeds along the bridge and crashing into a police barricade while carrying suspected narcotics, according to the Criminal Court.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Ibrahim Azlif Hussain, was ordered detained on charges involving the use, possession, or trafficking of illicit drugs.
According to court proceedings, police instructed him to stop while he was driving at dangerously high speeds on the highway. Instead of complying, the suspect attempted to evade officers before colliding directly with a police barricade.
Following the collision, an investigating officer searched the suspect and discovered eight rubber packets containing suspected illicit drugs bundled inside another packet.
During the hearing, Ibrahim Azlif admitted to using narcotics and claimed the substances were solely for personal consumption, though he contested the quantity by asserting he had only two rubber packets in his possession.
The Criminal Court determined there was sufficient evidence to satisfy the legal threshold of reasonable suspicion. In ordering his continued detention, the court cited procedural requirements, concluding that releasing him would pose a danger to public safety.
