The Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes has awarded the Maldives an overall rating of ‘Largely Compliant’ in its Second Round Peer Review Report on the implementation of the Exchange of Information on Request (EOIR) standard.
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) announced the publication of the report on Thursday, noting that the outcome demonstrates the nation’s ongoing progress in reinforcing tax transparency and expanding international cooperation.
The Peer Review and Monitoring Group reviewed and formally adopted the report during its 8th meeting, held between 29 September and 2 October 2026, reports MIRA.
Following the announcement, tax authorities extended appreciation to local stakeholders for their sustained engagement in reforming the jurisdiction’s legal and administrative frameworks to align with international standards. MIRA also recognised the assessment team—comprising Carine Kokar, David McTeigue, and Yara Alsulami—for their constructive oversight during the evaluation process.
The EOIR standard assesses whether a jurisdiction maintains adequate mechanisms to ensure the availability of ownership, accounting, and banking information, as well as the administrative capacity to exchange that data effectively with international treaty partners upon request.
