The Maldives National Anti-Corruption Academy (MNACA) will launch an accredited Diploma in Corruption Investigation in 2027 to address a shortage of technically qualified investigators handling corruption cases in the Maldives.

The programme, accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA), is intended to develop a new pool of investigators with specialised skills to investigate corruption and strengthen the country’s anti-corruption efforts.

MNACA Director General Ibrahim Thayyib said the lack of trained investigators specialising in corruption cases remains one of the main challenges facing investigations in the Maldives.

He said the diploma would help address the shortage by developing investigators equipped with modern investigative techniques and skills aligned with international standards.

The curriculum will cover investigative ethics, case management, evidence collection and preservation, and maintaining the chain of custody. It will also include digital forensics, financial transaction analysis, public finance systems and procurement regulations.

Students will also receive training in detecting fraud and undue advantage, conducting interviews, recording statements, and gathering and analysing intelligence.

MNACA said the programme forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen anti-corruption capacity across state institutions.

The academy also provides specialised training for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) staff, covering investigation techniques, leadership, and legal and procedural requirements.

It conducts targeted short courses for government institutions and state-owned enterprises to help their employees identify corruption risks and introduce preventive measures.

The academy said developing specialised investigative personnel at national level is among its key priorities, with the diploma programme intended to address the shortage of qualified investigators.
