SHE Highlights Thalassaemia Screening and Reproductive Health at Family and Health Expo 2026

The Society for Health Education (SHE) promoted thalassaemia screening, emotional well-being and sexual and reproductive health awareness through public engagement activities and a panel discussion at the Maldives Health and Family Expo 2026.

The three-day expo, held at Hulhumalé Central Park from 5 to 7 November, brought together healthcare providers, government institutions and non-governmental organisations to promote public health awareness.
SHE organised its exhibition stall around three themes: Know Your Blood, Know Your Emotions and Know Your Body, covering different aspects of preventive healthcare and personal well-being.

Under Know Your Blood, the organisation highlighted its thalassaemia diagnostic services, including haemoglobin (HB) testing and awareness activities. Visitors received information on the inherited blood disorder and the importance of screening and early detection.

The Know Your Emotions section focused on SHE’s counselling and psychosocial support services, with activities promoting self-care and emotional well-being. A dedicated Kids’ Corner also offered activities for younger visitors.
Under Know Your Body, SHE conducted activities on healthy lifestyle choices and sexual and reproductive health awareness. These included an interactive nutrition exercise in which participants created a healthy plate to learn about balanced diets, as well as a Myths and Facts activity addressing common misconceptions and encouraging informed health decisions.

As part of its participation, SHE also held a panel discussion titled Reproductive Health Through Every Stage of Life on 5 November, bringing together healthcare professionals from different medical fields to discuss reproductive health across different stages of life.
The discussion was moderated by Dr Fathimath Shafeega and featured Dr Fathimath Shazma Rameez, Consultant Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at SHE; Dr Nasrullah Nasir, Medical Officer and General Secretary of SHE’s Board; Dr Sahira Hussain, Medical Officer and Sexual and Reproductive Health Officer at SHE; and Senior Consultant Paediatrician Dr Rukhsana Ahmed.

SHE’s participation focused on improving public understanding of preventive healthcare and making health information and support services more accessible to the community.
