ECM Initiates Public Complaint Process for Political Party Registrations

The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has commenced the process of accepting application forms for registration as members of political parties for complaints prior to registration.

Prior to registering the application forms submitted by political parties, the ECM has made the information contained in the forms, including the full name of the person, the last three digits of their identity card, and the name of the party they applied for registration, publicly available on the Commission’s website.
Furthermore, the ECM has announced this information, and a notification will also be sent to the mobile numbers of the applicants.
The list of applications published comprises the following number of forms for each respective political party:
- Jumhooree Party (JP) – 88 forms
- Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) – 70 forms
- Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) – 34 forms
- Maldives National Party (MNP) – 173 forms
In case any concerns or complaints arise regarding the published list, individuals are encouraged to submit a complaint form to the Election Commission before 03:00 pm on Sunday, 30 July 2023. Alternatively, they can email their complaints to info@elections.gov.mv.
To ensure transparency, the current information about registered parties can also be checked by sending an SMS with the PPR space ID-Number to 1414.
