Starting from yesterday, interested individuals can submit their applications to participate in the presidential primary until the evening of next Thursday.
The MRM emphasised that candidates must comply with the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) guidelines for contesting the 2023 presidential primary and satisfy the condition of having an active MRM membership for at least one year.
Set to occur on the 1st of August, the MRM’s primary will be conducted through an online voting system, ensuring a convenient and accessible process for party members.
In a noteworthy development, the MRM has officially announced its intention to participate in the presidential primary. Notably, Faris Maumoon, son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has taken steps to clear his criminal record, signaling his intent to contest the election.
Meanwhile, the Jumhooree Party (JP) is reportedly engaging in discussions with the MRM about potentially contesting the upcoming September presidential election as a coalition.
