The Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM) has issued a statement today, urging resort managements to cooperate, and ease the re-registration and voting processes for resort working for the upcoming presidential elections.

In their statement, TEAM also illuminated that they have received complaints about resort managements discouraging their staffs from the voting process.

According to TEAM, several resort employees have claimed to experience both direct and indirect pressures, dissuading them from participating in the registration process, thereby obstructing their voting rights.

Highlighting the dedication and hard work exhibited by resort staff, TEAM has called on resort managements to extend their complete support in facilitating the registration process and providing essential information to employees who express interest in registering for the resort ballot box.

The association has stressed the importance of establishing an accessible and straightforward registration procedure for the workers, considering it a critical aspect of the democratic process.

The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) plans to establish polling stations at these private resorts, however, they are encountering hurdles in deploying ballot boxes in some resorts due to inadequate registration.

The deadline for voters to re-register online for the upcoming Presidential Election 2023 is set for tomorrow, 31st July 2023, at 11:59pm.
