Faris Maumoon Submits Candidacy Form for Presidential Election

Faris Maumoon, who previously declared his intention to participate in the upcoming presidential election as an independent candidate, has formally presented his candidacy application to the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM).
2023 ރިޔާސީ އިންތިޚާބަށް އަމިއްލަގޮތުން ކުރިމަތިލުމަށް އެމް.އާރް.އެމްގެ ރައީސް ނިންމާފައިވާތީ، ރިޔާސީ އިންތިޚާބުގެ ފުރަތަމަ ބުރުގެ ވޯޓުލުން އޮންނަ ދުވަހު (9 ސެޕްޓެމްބަރ 2023 – ހޮނިހިރު) ގެ 18:00 އާއި ހަމަޔަށް ޕާޓީގެ ހިންގުމުގެ މަސައްކަތްތަކުން ވަގުތީގޮތުން ވަނީ އެކެހެރިވެފައެވެ.

Faris was accompanied by his running mate, Abdul Sattar Yoosuf in the ceremonial submission event. The handover ceremony drew the presence of Faris Maumoon’s supporters and campaign associates.

Initially aligned with the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) party, Faris Maumoon had intended to run for the presidency under their banner. However, due to the party’s inability to garner a membership count of at least 3,000, the ECM made the decision to dissolve the MRM party.

Subsequently, Faris Maumoon was offered the party’s ticket after submitting his candidacy independently. His application was supported by the endorsement of 1,500 signatures, signifying his eligibility to stand as an independent contender in the election.
The role of election agent for Faris Maumoon has been entrusted to Ismail Zabeeh, a former Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
