Drones Tested for Medical Supply Transport in GDh. Atoll
In a bid to enhance healthcare services, drones for transporting medical supply to laboratories has undergone testing in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The Health Ministry has announced its intent to swiftly implement sample transportation via drones. Aiming to commence this innovative method within the current month, the Ministry is preparing for its execution.
In a campaign rally held in Madaveli, President Solih revealed the nation is actively pursuing the implementation of drone services with the primary goal of enhancing the healthcare system. This transformative initiative aims to leverage drones for the seamless transportation of medical samples to laboratories, particularly within the province, as emphasised by the President.
However, this pledge does not come without public criticism.
In a tweet, former Managing Director of State Trading Organisation (STO), Husen Amr, said that plans to implement this system was already underway within the year. He said that STO had already acquired drones, made technical arrangements, and shared those plans with government bodies.

An number of individuals also expressed their disapproval at the announcement of this pledge, questioning Solih’s lack of sincerity.

While drone-assisted transportation of samples and medical supplies has been successfully employed in several countries globally, this service will particularly expedite the transfer of samples and certain reports between different islands, according to the Ministry of Health.
The deployment of drones for inter-laboratory sample transport is also a part of the MDP’s secondary presidential manifesto. Furthermore, should they secure a second term in office, they have promised the establishment of a distinct National Health Service agency.
