During a campaign rally for The Democrats presidential candidate Ilyas Labeeb, Nasheed declared his commitment to securing Yameen’s freedom. Nasheed, who had formerly been critical of Yameen’s actions, now seems determined to advocate for his release.
At the rally, Nasheed conveyed his belief that the response to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) scandal had been insufficient, with only one arrest made despite the involvement of over 200 individuals.
Notably, Nasheed’s shift in focus coincides with the Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) engagement with external parties concerning Yameen’s detention.
Nasheed, indicating a potential alliance, tweeted a video featuring both party and PPM flags flying in unison. He also revealed his intention to participate in a second round of elections alongside the PPM.

Currently, Yameen remains in custody, but he has filed an application with the High Court, seeking to enforce his 11-year jail sentence. The High Court is set to convene on Thursday to deliberate on the matter.
