The Gan Island Council has announced the successful conclusion of a lucky draw aimed at distributing 400 land plots designated for residential use within the confines of Gan, situated in the Laamu Atoll.

The land parcels, spanning a total area of 4,000 square feet, were selected from three distinct zones on Gan. These plots have been specifically demarcated to cater to the growing residential requirements of the local populace.

Ahmed Zaki, the President of the Gan Island Council, highlighted the significance of this development. Previously, a land allocation of 2,000 square feet had been implemented, a measure that had drawn significant public dissatisfaction owing to its limited scope.

Responding to these concerns, the council undertook a comprehensive revision of the island’s land usage plan. Consequently, the allocation size was substantially enhanced to 4,000 square feet, an adjustment intended to better accommodate the aspirations of the island’s residents.

Zaki also underscored that despite this expansion, there remains a substantial demand for residential land among a considerable number of island inhabitants.

He assured that the available land resources would be judiciously utilised to meet these requirements. Plans are already underway to systematically allocate the remaining land parcels in the near future.

The recorded population of Gan currently stands at more than 4,800 individuals, further highlighting the significance of equitable land distribution to meet the growing residential demands.
