Independent presidential contender, Hassan Zameel, has made a commitment to institute a minimum wage ranging from MVR 20,000 to MVR 25,000.

Zameel’s decision to enter the race for the 2023 presidential election emerged from his conclusion that a coalition of political parties might not serve the nation’s best interests.

His manifesto outlines a series of policy measures aimed at addressing various challenges within the country. These encompass proposals to elevate the minimum wage and augment remuneration for individuals operating in hazardous work environments.

In addition to his economic focus, Zameel has expressed his intention to pursue justice for individuals who have gone missing or fallen victim to violence, as well as to recuperate state funds that were lost in connection with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

According to Zameel, the intricate ties between certain senior government figures and the misappropriation of funds could impede the recovery process under a coalition-led administration. This scenario might arise due to potential difficulties in interrogating officials who could be implicated.

The prospective president has also pledged to tackle drug trafficking, repatriate undocumented immigrants, and overhaul the national health insurance scheme. Moreover, Zameel has committed to facilitating tourism enterprises in making payments through a government-sanctioned platform. He has additionally proposed the establishment of a structured salary system for parents who choose to stay at home.

Zameel’s comprehensive manifesto outlines a range of objectives he seeks to achieve if elected, aiming to address diverse aspects of governance and societal well-being.
