Qasim Ibrahim, the presidential candidate from the Jumhooree Party (JP) in the upcoming presidential elections, has unveiled a significant commitment to provide complimentary housing for personnel serving in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

Speaking at a campaign gathering held in Maamigili, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Qasim articulated that the individuals dedicating themselves to the protection and service of the nation, along with their families, should not be burdened with concerns about accommodation.

He underlined that it is the state’s responsibility to ensure appropriate remuneration and a stable way of life for those devoted to upholding national security. He acknowledged the mounting count of military personnel, along with the ensuing hurdles in catering to housing needs.

To tackle this challenge, Qasim has vowed to address the situation, highlighting shortcomings observed in previous administrations. He affirmed that his prospective government will provide contemporary lodgings in proximity to the workplaces of officers and judges, eliminating the need for rent payments.

Additionally, Qasim pledged to oversee the construction of a 15-storey complex at Bandeyri Koshi, the governmental housing enclave situated in Male’ City, and to exempt military and police officers, as well as Hiyaa flats’ residents, from rental charges.
