The Parliament’s contingency plan for President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef’s inauguration highlights a possible relocation to the Parliament building if adverse weather conditions persist.
Preparations for Muizzu’s inauguration are underway at the Republic Square, with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) having cordoned off the area to facilitate necessary arrangements.
Hassan Ziyau, the Parliament’s Communications Director, informed Sun Media today that in the event of inclement weather preventing the ceremony at Republic Square, the backup venue will be the Parliament building.
In the case of a relocation, Ziyau mentioned that the number of attendees might be reduced from the initially planned 3,500.
Last week, there were indications of interest from leaders of three countries to attend the inauguration. However, their participation will be confirmed once security arrangements are finalised.
The Parliament has estimated the inauguration ceremony’s cost to be MVR 22.9 million but has not yet provided a detailed breakdown of expenses.
