EPA Fines Ali Bey Maldives Pvt Ltd for Coral Restoration Project Without EIA
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalised its investigation, confirming that Ali Bey Maldives Pvt Ltd initiated coral restoration without completing the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) stage, thereby violating the necessary requirements.

Consequently, in accordance with Regulation 20 of the Environmental Impact Reporting Regulations, which addresses the commencement of coral restoration without completing the EIA stage, Ali Bey Maldives Pvt Ltd has been fined MVR 20,000 on 22 November 2023.
EPA has been instructed to remit the fine within 30 days.
Additionally, Ali Bey Maldives Pvt Ltd is mandated to submit a report within the specified 30-day period. This report should detail the current environmental condition of the resort, as assessed by an EIA consultant.
