The slate of JP candidates includes notable figures such as the party’s leader and incumbent Maamigili MP, asim Ibrahim, who seeks re-election for the Maamigili constituency. Aishath Nahula, Qasim’s spouse and former transport minister, is vying for the South Hulhumale’ seat. Other candidates from the JP ranks include Ali Hussain for the Kendhoo seat, Dr. Ameen Ibrahim for West Henveiru, Abdulla Ameen for Ungoofaaru, Azleen Ahmed for Dhuvaafaru, Abdulla Ahmed for North Thinadhoo, Hussain Shahudhee for Nolhivaram, Nisama Mohamed for Dhaandhoo, and Mohamed Nasir for Eydhafushi.

Despite boasting a membership base exceeding 20,000 individuals, JP’s electoral performance in recent contests has been modest. Notably, in the first round of the 2023 presidential elections, Qasim secured just 5,460 votes, highlighting a disparity between party membership and voter support.

Presently, the JP holds two seats in the Parliament, occupied by Qasim Ibrahim and Ali Hussain, respectively. As the election season unfolds, all eyes will be on the dynamics and outcomes of JP’s electoral campaigns across the contested constituencies.
