The Ministry of Health launched a new helpline today, designated as 1677, with the aim of offering essential psychological first aid services to individuals in need.

In a ceremony hosted at the Ministry of Health, the helpline was officially inaugurated by Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the helpline stands ready to offer support to individuals facing a myriad of life challenges and psychological difficulties.

According to statements from the Ministry, the primary objective behind the helpline’s establishment is to furnish mental health first aid services via telephone calls, thus advancing psychological wellbeing within the community.

Furthermore, the Ministry has demonstrated its commitment to offering psychosocial support and assistance to those grappling with various psychological challenges, providing them with a confidential platform to articulate their concerns and access necessary support.

Importantly, the helpline caters to individuals of all age groups and will extend beyond merely offering mental health first aid to include appropriate referrals in accordance with established policies.

The launch of this helpline aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Week 14 initiatives, further reinforcing the government’s dedication to addressing mental health needs within the populace.
