Maldivian has announced its acquisition of two additional ATR aircraft.
In a statement released on social media platform X yesterday, Maldivian revealed that it has finalised the purchase of two new ATR 42-600 aircraft at the ongoing Singapore Airshow.
The delivery of these aircraft is anticipated by the year’s end, marking a strategic expansion for the airline.
With these acquisitions, Maldivian’s fleet will encompass a total of seven ATR brand aircraft.
Presently, the airline operates three ATR aircraft on its routes, with a prior order for two ATR aircraft placed last September.
ATR, in a social media update on X, expressed its satisfaction with Maldivian’s decision, highlighting the enhanced eco-friendly and contemporary services these aircraft will facilitate.
In addition to this development, Island Aviation recently announced its lease of a Boeing 787-8 aircraft for a six-year term, boasting a passenger capacity of 250 seats.
Notably, in December 2023, the company disclosed its intention to procure a wide-body aircraft, initially expressing interest in an Airbus A330-220.
Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen had previously outlined plans for Maldivian to introduce two wide-body aircraft within the next two months, alongside the launch of flights to seven new destinations.
Wide-body aircraft offer a passenger capacity of 275 individuals per trip and enable non-stop flights to distant locations.
Currently, Maldivian’s fleet comprises 25 aircraft, inclusive of an Airbus A320, three ATR aircraft, ten Dash 8 aircraft, and eleven Twin Otter seaplanes.
