Gov’t Disburses MVR 70 Million to Fishermen, Additional MVR 30 Million Expected by Monday

Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has announced the disbursement of MVR 70 million in unpaid dues for fishermen yesterday, with an additional MVR 30 million released on Monday.

Operations at GA. Koddoo and Addu City have resumed following the conclusion of a strike by fishermen over the unpaid dues, as stated by the Ministry on Friday.

The Ministry expressed gratitude towards the fishermen for accepting the proposal presented by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam during a meeting at Kooddoo with the striking fishermen.

The delay in payment disbursement led fishermen to stage a strike at the MIFCO fisheries complex in GA. Koodoo on Sunday, resulting in the cessation of operations at the complex.

The strike concluded after two days, following the commencement of unpaid dues disbursement.
