Today, authorities commenced a rigorous operation aimed at curbing illegal parking and removing derelict vehicles from the streets of Male’ City and Hulhumale’. According to the Maldives Police Services (MPS), the initiative comes in response to mounting concerns over the adverse impact of unauthorized parking on pedestrian safety, vehicular flow, and accessibility for public transport and emergency services.
The police highlighted the rampant issue of illegal parking, emphasising the significant challenges it poses to both pedestrians and motorists alike. In an effort to mitigate these challenges, citizens have been strongly advised to utilize designated parking zones within Male’ City and Hulhumale’ Phases 1 and 2.
In their crackdown, law enforcement officials will be particularly vigilant in areas notorious for illegal parking. Special attention will be directed towards green zones, public transport routes, thoroughfares, street corners, and vicinities surrounding schools.
Furthermore, vehicles obstructing crucial locations such as office buildings, hospitals, areas designated for individuals with special needs, mosques, public houses, and garage entrances will face removal.
The police have urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and abide by parking regulations to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhanced safety across the capital region.
