President Muizzu Addresses Developmental Needs Across Baa Atoll

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been actively engaging with local councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDC) across the Baa Atoll to discuss and address crucial developmental needs. In a series of meetings held at various secretariats, the President and council members deliberated on pressing issues affecting each island community.

Pressing concerns raised by Kudarikilu Island Council and WDC included land erosion, sanitation network management, infrastructure limitations, and the need for a new mosque.

Similarly, discussions with the Kamadhoo Island Council centred on challenges such as land erosion and electricity supply, as well as the desire for jurisdictional expansion to include neighboring islands for economic benefits. Council members emphasized the importance of strategic infrastructure development to sustain the thriving local tourism sector and encourage residents to remain on the island.

The engagement continued with the Baa Kihaadhoo Island Council and WDC, where issues surrounding land erosion, relocation of infrastructure, and bureaucratic hurdles were brought to the forefront. President Muizzu reiterated the government’s commitment to overcoming these challenges and fostering an environment conducive to sustainable development.

Subsequent meetings with councils from Thulhaadhoo, Fulhadhoo, Fehendhoo, Goidhoo, Hithaadhoo, Maaddoo, Maalhos, and Dharavandhoo Islands further underscored the diverse developmental needs across the atoll. Thulhaadhoo Council emphasized the necessity of establishing essential services such as the RTL ferry system and improving waste management infrastructure. Fulhadhoo Island raised concerns about the resumption of halted projects and the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades in key sectors like education and healthcare.

Fehendhoo Island highlighted challenges faced by the local school in delivering online lessons and advocated for improvements to harbor facilities and religious infrastructure. Goidhoo Island emphasized the urgency of resolving space constraints at the health center and the need for comprehensive infrastructure development to support tourism growth.

Meanwhile, discussions with Hithaadhoo Island underscored the importance of expediting harbor renovation work and enhancing essential services like electricity supply and healthcare. 

Furthermore, Maalhos Island highlighted concerns regarding jurisdictional issues and emphasized the importance of coastal protection measures and infrastructure development to support the local community. Dharavandhoo Island reiterated the need for infrastructure projects such as land reclamation and school construction, as well as enhancements to healthcare and electricity services.

As discussions continue, the President’s Office states that President Muizzu and his administration is dedicated to working closely with local communities to address their most pressing needs and foster sustainable development across the Baa Atoll.
