President Addresses Developmental Across Dhaalu Atoll Islands

During a series of meetings with various island councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDC) across the Dhaalu Atoll yesterday, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu addressed pressing developmental concerns facing the atoll.

In a meeting held at the Secretariat of the Dhaalu Atoll Council, President Muizzu engaged with the Kudahuvadhoo Island Council and WDC members to discuss the island’s developmental needs. The council highlighted issues such as insufficient harbor space, expansion of essential utilities, housing shortages, fish processing facilities, beach erosion, and healthcare services. The WDC members also requested the resumption of national identity card issuance services.

Similarly, in meetings with the Dh. Maaen’boodhoo Council and the Dhaalu Atoll Hulhudheli Island Council, concerns regarding housing, waste management, infrastructure, allowances for individuals with disabilities, and various other developmental needs were raised.

President Muizzu assured the councils and WDC members of his commitment to addressing their concerns. He provided updates on government efforts through Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials present at the meetings, according to statements from the President’s Office.

The discussions continued with the Dhaalu Rin’budhoo Island Council and the Dhaalu Atoll Meedhoo Island Council, where issues such as housing, medical services, mosque construction, electricity provision, water, sanitation, waste management, and social amenities like parks were addressed.

Furthermore, meetings with the Ban’didhoo Council focused on combating beach erosion, establishing infrastructure like ice plants and multi-purpose halls, relocating powerhouses, and improving waste management systems. The WDC members stressed the urgency of waste management solutions and advocated for increased sports opportunities, especially for women.

The President’s Office states that President Muizzu assured all councils and WDC members that their concerns would be thoroughly assessed by the administration. The ministers and senior government officials present offered updates on the progress made towards resolving the raised issues.
