Special Measures Implemented to Prevent Fraudulent Vehicle Registrations

MV+ News Desk | March 6, 2024

In response to a surge in complaints regarding vehicles being registered in garages without the knowledge or consent of their owners, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced the implementation of special measures to address this concerning issue.

Under the Road Motor Vehicle Registration Rules, vehicles with more than two wheels can only be registered upon submission of specific documents, including a declaration from the garage owner permitting parking, along with a copy of the owner’s identification. Additionally, the garage itself must be a registered facility.

Despite these regulations, the Ministry has been inundated with reports of vehicles being registered in garages without the explicit consent of the rightful owners. Consequently, immediate action is being taken to rectify this situation and ensure compliance with existing protocols.

The authenticity of the letters of no objection from the garage owner will be meticulously verified during the vehicle registration process, according to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

Addressing broader concerns related to road congestion and vehicular management, the government has intensified efforts to alleviate traffic issues. In a recent initiative targeting the removal of aged and damaged vehicles from urban areas, a total of 158 vehicles have been successfully cleared from the roads.

These removed vehicles, consisting primarily of dilapidated cars and pickup trucks, have undergone appropriate disposal procedures, with some being dismantled and transported to designated facilities for scrapping, as confirmed by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
