President Announces Plans for a Hospital in Mulah
During his visit to Mulah Island yesterday, President Muizzu announced plans to establish a hospital and upgrade existing healthcare facilities.
In addition to the hospital, the President pledged to expand the harbour and prioritize the atoll’s developmental needs.
President Muizzu commenced a series of meetings by convening with the Mulaku Atoll Council during his official trip to the atoll.
Subsequent meetings with island councils from M. Mulah, M. Naalaafushi, M. Muli, M. Veyvah, and M.Kolhufushi continued to address pressing concerns. These ranged from expediting infrastructure projects like causeway construction and water supply to addressing challenges in education, tourism, and waste management.
Mulaku Atoll Council
Discussions focused on vital aspects such as healthcare services, transportation improvements, and infrastructure development. The Atoll Council emphasized the necessity of enhancing healthcare facilities, installing ATM services, and improving transportation links to Male’ City.
WDC members highlighted concerns regarding work conditions and requested an increase in allowances.
Additionally, there were calls for the completion of ongoing resort projects and the prompt construction of essential infrastructure such as harbours.
Mulaku Island Council
Council Members expressed the need for the island’s health centre to be upgraded to a hospital, ATM service availability, expediting the commencement of shore protection, and harbour expansion. Council members emphasised youth needs, and requested the establishment of sporting facilities and a youth centre on the island. They also shared the challenges caused by dismantling the old jetty on the island.
Muli Island Council
The Muli Island Council expressed concerns about insufficient electricity and sewage services, advocating for enhancements in education, health, and tourism sectors. The council requested construction of housing units and suggested including Boahuraa Island under Muli’s jurisdiction for resource leverage. Their aim is to transform Muli into an urban center to create income opportunities for residents.
The President affirmed the government’s dedication to addressing these concerns, including the island’s transformation into an urban center.
Nalaafushi Island Council
The Naalaafushi Island Council highlighted the importance of accelerating infrastructure projects, including causeway completion and water supply improvements. The council also emphasized the need for waste management solutions and simultaneous development of sports and fishing industries. The WDC members raised challenges related to workspaces and requested increased allowances.
Veyvah Island Council
In Veyvah, attention was drawn to halted water supply and sewage projects, shortage of teachers in schools, and environmental conservation efforts.
Kolhufushi Island Council
Meanwhile, Kolhufushi Island’s council highlighted the need for road construction, utility connectivity to housing units, and tourism development.
