Persons with Disabilities Granted Roles at Polling Stations

The Election Commission of Maldives has extended opportunities to individuals with hearing and physical disabilities to serve as officials during the upcoming Parliamentary elections slated for April.

With a training program tailored for these individuals, nine participants will be taught electoral mechanisms, procedural intricacies, and the precise duties entailing their designated posts.

Tasks range from administrative duties to more operational functions such as fingerprinting and the issuance of key identification numbers. 

In the past, people with visual impairments voted with the help of someone else. However, in the last presidential election, a template has been developed to allow people with visual impairments to vote on their own without assistance.
