MV+ News Desk | March 9, 2024

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a stern warning against dumping garbage on the streets, highlighting the significant health risks associated with this common practice. This caution comes amidst preparations for the upcoming month of Ramadan, during which a surge in household cleaning often leads to a notable increase in waste production.

The EPA has underscored the importance of maintaining clean and hygienic environments, particularly in public areas, to mitigate the risk of health hazards for residents and pedestrians.

Urging the public to refrain from indiscriminate dumping of garbage, the EPA has called upon individuals to take proactive measures to ensure proper disposal of waste materials.

Emphasising compliance with existing legislation, the EPA has highlighted the provisions outlined in the Waste Management Act, which prohibit any activity that may lead to environmental pollution.

Additionally, the agency has encouraged adherence to established waste management protocols and urged citizens to engage with the Waste Management Corporation for prompt and efficient disposal of garbage.

Traditionally, the period preceding Ramadan sees a heightened level of activity as individuals engage in thorough cleaning of their homes and communal spaces.
