Solution Slated for Street Trash in Four Months, Reassures Mayor

Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim has announced plans to address the ongoing issue of garbage dumping on the Male’ city’s streets, with a commitment to increase capacity of the City Council and implement solutions within the next four months.

Over the past three weeks, the streets of the Male’ city have been marred by a significant accumulation of waste, including bar furniture and equipment, creating an unsightly and unsanitary environment for residents.

Mayor Azim acknowledged the pressing need to address the problem and outlined steps being taken by the city council to tackle it. He stated that garbage collection efforts have been underway for the past two weeks, but emphasised the necessity of bolstering the capacity of key stakeholders, including the city council, WAMCO, and the police, in order to effectively manage the issue.

Highlighting the challenges ahead, Mayor Azim stressed the importance of building and expanding capacity, citing the need to recruit personnel, acquire vehicles, and implement software solutions. He cautioned that such efforts would require time, estimating a timeline of three to four months for significant progress to be made.

Addressing concerns about the readiness of relevant agencies to tackle the garbage problem, Mayor Azim underscored the importance of proactive measures to prevent similar issues from arising in the future.

In a bid to reassure residents, Mayor Azim pledged to implement measures to hold accountable those responsible for illegal practices such as charging exorbitant fees for garbage disposal. He assured the public that the city council would work to streamline garbage collection services, ensuring accessibility and affordability for all.
