Preliminary Surveys for Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo Bridge Design in Addu City Conclude
The preliminary surveys necessary for the design of the Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo Bridge in Addu City have reached completion.
According to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, The Arab Contractors from Egypt, tasked with the preliminary design and survey of the bridge, initiated the survey last Wednesday, and the initial round of surveys has now concluded.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the 14-kilometer bridge project took place during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Addu City on February 19th.
A sum of MVR 30 million has been earmarked for the survey essential to kick-start the physical construction of the bridge connecting Addu City’s Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo, as outlined in the state budget proposal. This allocation aligns with President Muizzu’s ‘Hafutha 14’ roadmap, which delineates the first 100-day goals of his administration.
During the signing ceremony, President Muizzu underscored the significance of the bridge project, highlighting it as one of the key commitments of his administration. He further mentioned that the costs associated with the design and feasibility of the bridge will be covered through grants.
The development of the Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo Bridge was also promised by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom during his re-election campaign in 2018.
