President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to tackling the obstacles hindering the public’s access to health insurance services.
This assurance came during the “Raees ge Javaab” series, providing a platform for direct engagement between the President and citizens on various concerns.
A resident from Gahdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, raised concerns regarding the challenges faced by individuals in obtaining health insurance services efficiently. They highlighted instances where despite paying substantial premiums, reimbursement for medical expenses only occurs upon a personal visit to a doctor.
Moreover, there have been reports of delays or refusals in reimbursement even after bill submissions. The individual emphasised the necessity for simplified access to health insurance for private citizens.
In response, Muizzu acknowledged the existing regulations overseeing the health insurance system and pledged to collaborate with pertinent authorities to identify solutions that facilitate broader public involvement in the system.
The government is actively pursuing initiatives to enhance public access to healthcare services. Through the universal healthcare insurance scheme, Aasandha, the government intends to conduct bi-annual medical check-ups via government health facilities. Additionally, commencing March 15, applications for two treatments, IVF and IUI, will be accepted, thereby broadening healthcare options for citizens.
