The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced that for the upcoming parliamentary election, ballot boxes will be stationed in three foreign locations.
According to ECM Secretary General Hassan Zakariyya, voters have re-registered in sufficient numbers to warrant the placement of ballot boxes in three foreign countries, namely India, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.
“During the re-registration window, voters had re-registered sufficiently, prompting the need for ballot boxes in three countries, namely Trivandrum, India, Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,” commented Hassan.
The commission clarified that ballot boxes will not be placed in other foreign countries as there were not enough registered voters during the re-registration window.
With the parliamentary election scheduled for April 21st, the re-registration window opened by ECM expired at 15:00, yesterday.
