Coral Bleaching Forecast Looks Dire for the Coming Weeks, Says MMRI
The Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI) has reported the onset of localised bleaching in certain regions across the Maldives.
According to the latest projections from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the outlook for coral bleaching in the coming weeks appears increasingly worrisome.
The current coral bleaching alert level is being closely monitored by authorities, with a breakdown as follows:
- Watch: Current coral bleaching alert level
- Warning: Coral bleaching alert level, outlook for weeks 1-4
- Alert level 1: Coral bleaching alert level, outlook for weeks 5-8
- Alert level 2: Coral bleaching alert level, outlook for weeks 9-12
