The Public Service Media (PSM) has issued a statement addressing concerns raised by members of the public regarding a recent episode of its Ramadan programme, “Ihsaas,” aired on TVM.

Criticism was directed at the show’s host, Aminath Namza, who also serves as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Social Family Development, for allegedly posing an insensitive question to the parent of a special needs child.

The episode in question, which marked the commencement of the fourth series of “Ihsaas,” featured a family with a child with special needs. PSM acknowledges that certain language used during the broadcast did not align with the intended narrative. This matter was deliberated upon during a board meeting convened on Thursday morning, where enhancements to the programme were discussed.

In response to public outcry, particularly on social media platforms over the past two days, PSM has taken proactive steps. Engagements have been conducted with the Head of the Program Department and the programme’s presenter to address the concerns raised. Moving forward, episodes covering sensitive topics, such as those involving special needs individuals, will undergo meticulous review by the Company’s Content Committee before being broadcast.

PSM stated “Ihsaas” aims to raise awareness and offer support to individuals on pertinent matters. PSM reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the programme in the most comprehensive manner possible. The Company expressed gratitude to the public for their engagement and cooperation on this matter.
