Bar Council Elects New President

The Bar Council of Maldives has announced the results of internal elections held yesterday, unveiling Al-Ustaz Hussain Siraj as the council’s new president.
The election for the Executive Committee of the Bar Council was conducted online through the ‘Fahi Vote’ platform, revealed the council in a press release shared yesterday.
Under the provisions of Article 11(f) of Act No. 5/2019, known as the Legal Profession Act of Maldives, 991 registered lawyers were eligible to vote; 396 cast their ballots.
Siraj secured the election against opponent Mohamed Faisal with 224 votes.
Alongside the presidential election, Al-Ustaz Ahmed Shifau secured his position as a member of the Executive Committee.
Voting took place from 13:00 to 15:00 yesterday.
